Jeff Brooks, creator of Clarinet Monster, is taking the world by storm with his exciting new pops show for clarinet and symphony orchestra. This program highlights the music of three “clarinet monsters”:
Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw, and Jeff Brooks.
All of these clarinetists are famous for their innovative use of the instrument and substantial contributions to the ever-expanding clarinet repertory, both in the jazz and western art genres.
Sure, there are several Artie Shaw and Benny Goodman tribute concerts touring right now. Clarinet Monster is different. It also features classical masterworks for the clarinet and their connections to these jazz standards. The opening tune is a sort-of mashup between Carl Maria von Weber’s classic Invitation to the Dance and one of Bennie Goodman’s trademark tunes Let’s Dance.
